There is a story behind this piece beginning with Julie's trip to SF for a translation convention so she decided to meet her internet chat buddy for the first time. For our 'blind date' I took her to the Jack Tone Ranch, where she fell in love with and bought a yearling filly. Following that, my husband and I took Julie to see Yosemite National Park after a glamour sitting at my sister-in-law's photo studio. When we finally made it back to the house, Julie noticed a few of my drawings hanging on the walls. She later asked if I would do something for her company Christmas cards. I said I'd think about it, since this was mid December and I'm a rural mail carrier... I had PLENTY to do already! This is what I came up with, the actual drawing process was three hours, and the forelock on the grey reflects that!  I ended up using these as my own Christmas cards that year as well. The original piece included the Star of Bethlehem, but for simplicity, I have omitted it for online display.  I was reluctant to even delve into my artwork again for emotional reasons, but this piece broke the long dry spell and opened Pandora's box of creativity again. Thank you Julie for knowing I needed to do this.
